COMMUNITY

The wind farm will deliver £196,000 to the local community over the life of the development.   A Community Fund Liaison Committee is being established to decide how the funds should be administered and allocated.  This Committee will be made up entirely of local residents - we have a limited involvement in the decisions made, but of course need to ensure it is being spent locally, and through a transparent process.

This Committee will soon be seeking ideas from the whole community as to how the money could be spent, and will make a final decision regarding this before the funds are made available in September 2010.

Because each community is unique, the way community funds are organised and get spent vary.
Two different examples of how a Fund can operate are:

Burton Wold Wind Farm, Northamptonshire
Administrator:   Kettering Borough Council
Scope:             Energy efficiency/education projects within Burton Latimer Parish

Installation of solar panel for communal hot water at sheltered housing unit; grant to local Guide Hall for energy efficient renovations; childrens educational books.  See the Burton Wold Community Fund pages for more information.

Winscales Moor Wind Farm, Cumbria
Administrator:   Cumbria Community Foundation
Scope:             Environmental projects within three nearest parishes to wind farm

Grants have been made to parish community halls to increase their energy efficiency, reducing their power bills.  For more information see the Winscales Moor news page

Oakgrove School Sustainable Town Workshop

The development team were delighted to be involved in the recent workshop at Oakgrove School.  Students were tasked with creating a sustainable town for 20,000 residents, and submitting their design to the nationwide competition.  We were pleased to attend and provided students with information about how wind power and other renewables can be incorporated into a sustainable community.
